Yazoo: You and Me Both

IMG_4774Image by awahlbom via FlickrTaking a break tomorrow night from pondering the economy and technology to spend the evening with Yazoo, the English synthpop duo. They reformed earlier this year to produce a box set of their two releases from the early 80s, and decided to do a concert tour in support of it. 26 years years of waiting pay off for me. Soooooo sweet it is LOL.

I fell in love with Upstairs at Eric’s, their first release, back in 1982, while I was sharing a tiny studio off Shattuck in Berkeley. My first big foray out into the big cruel world, on my own. My roommate spent most of his time over in San Francisco, and I spent most of my time composing at home, and they provided a lot of inspiration.

I never knew much about them until a year later, when Michael Lockwood introduced me to their second album (“What!? They have a SECOND ALBUM?” I gasped!). I think he had a copy of The FACE that had an interview with them as well. I was overcome again. But severely bummed that they had broken up. Thanks Michael!

26 years later, I’m gonna go see ‘em and pay homage to what they gave me, and be that 21 year old again. Thanks Vince and Alison!
