Pink Floyd’s Richard Wright: Dead at 65

Richard WrightImage by Mon4ch0 via Flickr Richard Wright, one of the founding members of Pink Floyd, died from cancer today at age 65.

While I was never a big fan of The Wall, their middle psychedelic years as typified by Echoes and Ummagumma were always at my side, and anyone who lived through the 70s remembers Dark Side Of The Moon on our turntables.

While Syd Barrett may have been the catalyst for many of their early explorations, Richard Wright was responsible for the Hammond-organ wash that *was* the sound of Pink Floyd through early, middle and late years. It’s somewhat sad that we won’t see music like that again in our lifetimes.
