We had a great night out on Friday at DirtCandy on the Lower East Side. It’s rare to find vegetarian fare in NYC or anywhere that isn’t preachy and plain. DirtCandy throws out the rules and redefines the game. Don’t think of vegetables as replacement for meat; think of each savory essential flavor that they bring to the palette and then exploit that. Mix it with new exciting textures. Re-purpose them into new arenas: Sweet Potato Ice Cream. Smoked Tofu. Grapefruit Lollipops.

We had a blast, because Pete and Stephanie were easily able to convert the short concise menu to vegan without compromise. Because the flavors were bold and not subdued. And best of all, it was just plain fun.
